End of March News

I just learned from our B & T representative that Stephenie Meyer is coming out with a new Teen book, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella.
This will be released 12:01 a.m. on June 5th.
I will order lots of copies for the library as regular copies and Express.
I think Twilight fans will be excited!

CDO update March 25, 2010

More March news
I've been working on ordering Readers and Picture books for the newly remodeled Wilmot branch collection which is re-opening in about a year.
CDO is not planning to replace Wilmot's entire collection, but we are working on refreshing parts of the collection. As the Children's and Teen selector, I am going to be working on refreshing the Teen collection, Children's Fiction, Picture books, readers and paperbacks.
Adult selectors will refresh the Adult Fiction, Mystery, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, Westerns, and Large Print collections.
So far I've completed 20 carts of Readers that Baker & Taylor sent me last week. Each cart had 100 Reader titles in it so I've looked at thousands of Reader titles recently !
My next job is looking at the 34 carts full of Picture book titles. Each cart has 100 Picture book titles in it. This will probably take a while, it's fun though.
Happy Thursday,
Ann

March 19th news

Happy March!

I just sent off an order for Twilight: the Graphic Novel as an Express book. There is a waiting list on it so I think it will be popular as an Express choice too. That's for teens.

And, for children I ordered Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan. There are 80 holds on this book so maybe the Express copies will help ease up the waiting list. We also own this book on CD and as Audio download from Overdrive.

Thinking ahead to April - that's when the Standing Order list usually goes out to your branch manager for review and decision making. The standing order list includes items like the Guinness World Records 032.02 G9485 2010 (I always thought it was called The Guinness Book of World Records ) travel books, Cracking the GED, and magazines.

I encourage all of you to take a look at your local grocery store and/or drug store newstand to see what new magazines are available for teens and kids.
Have you heard any teen suggestions for magazines?
Does your branch have a book club or advisory group that would like to recommend any new magazines for your branch?
Don't forget the ever popular Fangoria magazine - all about horror films. I think teenagers really like horror and even if the cover art is fairly grotesque... 'Fangoria has a 30 year legacy of providing the best in horror entertainment and news coverage. ' from their website.
Have fun !

March Updates

March News
Ye Toads and Vipers !
I just read an Advanced Reader's copy of the new title by Karen Cushman, 'Alchemy and Meggy Swann'.
It's due to be published in April and I have already placed an order in with Baker & Taylor for copies for the library.
Meggy is the alchemist's daughter and not happy to be in London living with her father. . It's a good historical fiction story and I think kids will enjoy it.
The publisher indicates that it's geared toward the 10 to 14 year old reader. 176 pages.
Teen News:
I recently ordered 'Twilight in Forks: The Saga of the Real Town' on DVD. It's a documentary about the town of Forks and I figured this would be popular for all of the Twilight fans.
